Petition to the Premier for a Home Fire Sprinkler Code

We, the undersigned, hereby petition the Premier to pass an building code amendment mandating automatic fire sprinkler systems in all new construction of one- and two-family homes .

We state or believe:

  1. That there is an 82 percent reduction in the risk of occupants dying in a fire when both working smoke alarms and home fire sprinklers are present.
  2. That homes with automatic fire sprinkler systems have a 50 to 66 percent reduction in average property loss per fire.
  3. That the cost of installing home fire sprinklers is a fraction of the cost associated with home fire damage.
  4. That a code mandating the use of automatic fire sprinkler systems in new construction of one- and two-family dwellings, if adopted, would save lives, prevent injuries, and protect the property of the citizens.
